Pfizer Volunteers Provide Free Diabetes and Blood Pressure Screening for Casa Otoñal Residents

On July 5, 2006, between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM, staff volunteers from the New Haven based Pfizer Clinical Research Unit performed free Diabetes and blood pressure screenings for residents Casa Otoсal's senior housing complex on Sylvan Avenue in New Haven.

About 47 residents of Casa came to the screening. One man walking by using two canes stopped to asked what was going on. When told it was a free blood pressure and diabetes screening, he said, "Great! Where do I sign up!"

Residents received their results immediately, and if any of the residents had abnormal test readings, they received medical advice from Dr. John Kern, also from Pfizer's CRU, who came as well. All the residents tested received a bag filled with samples of Pfizer products.




Casa Otocal provides a range of social and support services to low-income, minority, elderly, children and families in New Haven. Programs and services include: 104 units of affordable senior housing, senior center day program, elderly nutrition program, transportation, social services, case management,information and referral, counseling, companions, homemaker and chore services, employment and child development training programs.
