CRU Lends a Hand/Habitat for Humanity
On October 14, 2004, CRU employees volunteered their time at Habitat for Humanity in New Haven, a not-for-profit organization that builds new houses and refurbishes existing ones to be sold with no-interest loans to low-income families. The group of ten employees, supervised by Habitat construction staff, spent the day doing a variety of jobs to turn the renovated house into a welcoming home for a single mother and her two children.
Working together in groups, some raked and bagged the backyard leaves, while others painted the bedrooms. Some removed siding and unworthy kitchen cabinets, while others tore down crumbling porch steps to make way for safer ones. At the end of the day a new porch was built and painted as well.
Knowing that the group’s work would greatly improve someone’s life made it a labor of love. “Pfizer supports many communities,” reflects Meredith Benson-Kinzly, a recruiter at the CRU, “but giving back to the New Haven community where we will live and work means so much more.”
The CRU employees are proud to be involved with Pfizer’s ongoing support of Habitat for Humanity and hope to play a central role in continuing to build a stronger community.
